Part 3: 'Choreographic bodies: approaches and potentials'

Concept, essays, impressions and evaluations.....

In December 2008 Danslab, a laboratory for choreographic research in Den Hague, organized the first Frame weekend 'Research on Choreographic Research'. This symposium aims to be a platform for exchange and dialogue and directs its attention at experienced freelance choreographers.

In this follow up we focus on the body in creative exploration.
We are curious to know more about the way the body is approached in the environment in which the body is the protagonist: dance and more specifically choreographic research. We are interested to know the inspiration of your work, what ideas about the body are connected and what behaviour of the body is produced. In short: the corporeal concepts that artists themselves use in their work.
Can we find common approaches?
Where do we differ?
What do we show and what do we neglect?

The weekend will be guided by Helena de Preester, Dr. in Philosophy and Post-doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Fine Arts (University College Ghent).
A significant amount of her researches are focused on body matters.
She will lead us through the discussions and brainstorms, inspired by the speakers.

Our guests of this weekend are
Saturday, June 4th
Rob van Kranenburg
Presentation on the term: “corporeal literacy” and the body as interface

Sunday, June 5th
Michael Kroes (journalist, writer and film maker)
Presentation on the image of the human body in visual arts

The speakers input concerning the way the body is conceived in society at large and in the (performing) arts in specific, will be the inspiring departure point for conversation and exchange on the subject of matter.
